Barbaresco is a DOCG wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes which are selected from vineyards situated on hills rich in limestone and marl in a micro zone within the Langhe. The dominant characteristics of this wine are elegance and an outstanding complexity and personality. It is an elegant wine with a long cellar-life. It is no mere coincidence that it was one of the first appellations to be acknowledged. Today its 66 crus are identified by Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA - Additional Geographic Mentions).
Produced exclusively in the four municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio (a village on the outskirts of Alba), from grapes grown in vineyards positioned between 250 and 500 metres above sea level, with calcareous marl soils of marine origin.
The dominant characteristic of Barbaresco DOCG is elegance: the colour is bright garnet red and the nose is filled with evident scents of spices, fruits of the forest and dried figs, and even jam. The velvety elegance of Barbaresco DOCG is confirmed on the palate as the flavour develops.
BEST FOOD PAIRINGS
Barbaresco DOCG has a very close link with its terroir and with the grape of origin, Nebbiolo. It is ideal for pairing with more complex traditional Piedmontese dishes, from stewed to braised meats. As a general rule it is perfect with main courses featuring roast meats or lamb, but also with elaborate pasta dishes, like tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and sausage or with pasta served with a meat sauce.
