Barbaresco is a DOCG wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The dominant characteristics of this wine are elegance and an outstanding complexity and personality. Barbaresco DOCG spends 24 months ageing in wood and is an elegant wine with a long cellar-life.
Produced exclusively in the four municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio (a village on the outskirts of Alba), in the Langhe, from grapes grown in vineyards positioned 400-450 metres above sea level, in calcareous marl soils of marine origin.
The dominant characteristic of Barbaresco DOCG is elegance: the colour in the glass is bright garnet red, the nose is filled with evident scents of spices, fruits of the forest and dried figs, and even jam. The elegance of this velvety wine is confirmed on the palate as the flavour develops.
BEST FOOD PAIRINGS
Barbaresco DOCG has a very close link with its terroir and with the grape of origin: Nebbiolo. It is ideal for pairing with more complex traditional Piedmontese dishes, from stewed to braised meats. As a general rule, it is perfect with main courses featuring roast meats, particularly lamb, but also with elaborate pasta dishes, like tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and sausage or with tajarin (similar to tagliatelle but much narrower) served with a meat sauce.
